Virgin Atlantic proposed staging the Spice Girls to open their newly refurbished area of Terminal 3, Heathrow Airport, London.
The complex issues included the ceremony being hosted during Heathrow’s’ peak periods of customers, just prior to Christmas.
Crowd considerations, in a fully operational terminal included the proximity of a fully working underground station leading to and from the terminal, the requirements of other airlines passengers and Heathrow Airports’ Strict adherences to safety. It was made abundantly clear that if Heathrows’ safety team, of fire and health and safety officials, were not entirely satisfied with safety arrangements then the event would be cancelled up to 5 minutes prior to the event commencing.
The event requirements were comprehensive safety management plans, risk assessments, thorough meetings, a specific fire risk assessment and on site safety management.
The event was a huge success, which received praise from BAA airports for the safety management of the event.
