The chief executive of Merlin Entertainment has admitted that safety procedures on The Smiler at Alton Towers “were not adequate”.
Nick Varney made the statement earlier today where he also revealed the group was making “technical and training” adjustments to the way it operates other rides.
When asked if safety procedures were good enough at The Smiler, Mr Varney said: “They clearly weren’t adequate on Smiler because the accident happened.”
“We have taken steps to upgrade safety standards from what were already very rigours standards across the group.” He also revealed the entire site had been taken over by the Health and Safety Executive – which was dismantling part of the ride for the investigation. Source: skynews
