Lorry Carrying Explosives Catches Fire On M1

A section of the M1 in Derbyshire has been closed to traffic after a lorry carrying explosives burst into flames.

Lanes in both directions were shut to traffic between junctions 28 and 29 after the fire broke out around 1pm.

One southbound lane has since been reopened, although both northbound lanes remain closed.

Emergency crews from Derbyshire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene.

Crews have distributed water to motorists caught in lengthy queues and two paramedics are on hand to help anybody suffering in the extreme heat.
